After 50 years of experience and more than one million Oboe reeds sold "MY REEDS" has finally come to a conclusion: Every Oboe player needs his own reed and this is our aim for his personalized reeds.
For this reason we have thought about creating "MY REED" my one and only reed.

First of all we have to be able to distinguish the two main parts: The paletta and the tube.
The paletta is the most important part because it is from there, that we have got the sound vibration.
To make our "MY REED" we have to consider Table 1.

Table 1
A Ø

B

A1 9.5-10.0 mm
A2 10-10.5 mm
A3 10.5-11 mm

B2 0.57-0.59
B3 0.59-0.61
B4 0.61-0.63

For example: If you prefer using the cane A1 of Ø 9.5/10 mm., thickness of the gouged B2 0.57/0.59, the width C2 medium-size narrow, D1 Europaen etc.
As shown in the example, you can personalize it choosing what you need and there are different solution as shown in Table 2.
You can go to the scrape of point D.
As you can see in Table 2 the scrape tips are many.

You can choose among the four models of scraped tips multiplied for five different strengths.
You can decide on the length of the scrape sulla paletta from 10 to 20 mm. and like this you have made your first choice or model. Now that the most difficult part has been dove let’s follow on by choosing the lower part (of the tube) and also here there are different models, we can see this in Table 3.

The length affects the intonation and therefore it is very important that we put in consideration our choices that we made beforehand.
One long reed could be very narrow and surely the pitch is higher while a large reed not as long as the first one would drop in pitch (the sound would be lower.)

You have already seen that it is not quite easy, try and put together the letters/numbers that your can see in the chart and then you have
1° Example - La paletta.
(Tube canes Ø) A2 - (Thickness of the gouged) B1 (Large form) C2 (Scraped model) D3 E20
2° Example – Type of tube T2 47 - Length of reed F73

The result of "MY REED" made:
A2 – B1 – C2 – D3 – E20 – T247 – F73

The final part is just like decoding a message to read. A long reed 73 mm. with American scrape that’s long 20 mm., medium soft, using cane Ø 10/10.5, gouged to 0.55/0.57 mm, in a modelled tube "Professional" of 47 mm. The form is an average size/narrow.
This kind of reed is medium soft and it is adapted to children and beginners.
For professional players we would like to suggest various models of our cane, partly finished so it can give you a possibility to choose to your personal needs.
You can get your reed that went well and measure the various parts (final length, scrape length the width of the paletta, etc.) check and see which column suits your kind of reed and you can form your own personal code:

ABCDEF-T

My Reed: Is supplied in a reed case of 7 pieces.

PS. All unfinished cane tubes come from the South of France dried and then seasoned for at least two years
